KBA Turkey

Welcome to KBAs of Turkey Website

Doğa, BirdLife Turkey launched a KBA Update Programme in 2018, in cooperation with national and international stakeholders. The aims of the programme are:

  • Establish an informal working group on identification, monitoring and safeguarding of Turkey’s KBAs, supported by species expert groups
  • Refine and update the list of KBAs and associated criteria based on the new KBA standard of IUCN
  • Identify new KBA trigger species populations, based on up to date taxonomy, red-list assessments and population data, and, wherever needed, describe new KBAs
  • Assess pressures and responses at KBAs in cooperation with local conservation groups and other stakeholders
  • Refine site boundaries and accounts of KBAs, wherever needed
  • Publicize the new KBA inventory of Turkey by mid-2019.

First activities of the project will involve establishment of the informal working groups and launch of the species expert groups by early 2018.
